The Streetlife Nightshelter is open 365 days per year 24/7 offering practical and emotional support to young people who are homeless in Blackpool.
Volunteers are required to commit to doing an overnight sleep at the night shelter.
The volunteer role includes setting up the shelter in readiness for the young people to access the shelter. Once young people are in the shelter, volunteers will spend the evening supporting the young people; this may be supporting them to cook a meal, playing a board game, listening to them and learning how the young person's day has been or/and providing practical and emotional support.
Volunteers also need to ensure the shelter runs smoothly, this will require the volunteer to allocate a bed and a small cleaning job to each young person accessing.
Volunteers may need to respond to phone calls and to refer to emergency social services if a young person presents and is unable to access the nightshelter during the evening.
Volunteers work in pairs and are provided with their own room to sleep in while they are at the nightshelter.
Supervision and support is provided by the Nightshelter Manager
