Outreach Crisis Support Member Volunteer

Better Minds Blackpool

A crisis support volunteer will be trained and supported to provide practical and emotional support to families of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, social, emotional and mental health needs and families impacted by criminal activity and exposure as well as social care involvement within the Blackpool area.

They will volunteer closely with families to assess their strengths and provide a family centered approach in understanding their individual and holistic needs, provide information and guidance on current services as well as promoting the services of Better Minds Blackpool whilst empowering families in navigating the system effectively. 

What skills do I need?

At Better Minds Blackpool we truly feel that parents and carers who already have 'LIVED EXPERIENCE' of a child or young person supported to live with SEND and SEMH needs already fulfills the list of skills below and will be supported in accessing training to enhance and build on this experience.   

> A background in social work, education, psychology, or a related field.

> Experience of working with children and families.

> Knowledge of SEND legislation, policies, and procedures.

> Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with families.

> Strong advocacy and negotiation skills, with a commitment to empowering families.

> Ability to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team and with external agencies.

> Good organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage caseloads effectively.

> Commitment to professional development and ongoing learning in the field of SEND support.

The role may involve occasional evening or weekend volunteering to accommodate the needs of families.

Travel within the local area may be required to visit families in their homes or attend meetings with professionals.
