Schoolreaders - Volunteers needed to support primary children with reading in Blackpool

Schoolreaders ( Blackpool Wyre & Fylde )

Schoolreaders volunteers visit their matched primary school once a week for an hour or two and listen to children read individually, helping to improve the children's reading and comprehension skills whilst also developing a love of reading.  Children that read for pleasure at a young age are more likely to be able to access their full secondary curriculum and also have greater opportunities in later life.

What skills do I need?

Our volunteers do not need any specific skills or qualifications or have any prior experience working with children or in a primary school but they must be over 18, have good written and spoken English and be able to commit to visiting their matched school once a week for at least a year (although holidays and appointments can be taken during this time).
