Young Adult Carers Youth Club Cook

Blackpool Carers Centre

Food and eating together is an important part of the Young Adult Carers (those unpaid carers who we support from the ages of 16 -24) experience when they attend sessions at the centre. With more funding to provide hot meals we are seeking a volunteer who can help prepare healthy meals for around 15 young adults in each session. We have a fully equipped kitchen at the centre. This role would ideally suit someone with previous experience in catering looking to make a difference for families and unpaid carers in Blackpool or someone with the qualifications and skills who would like to build experience for career development. 

What skills do I need?

Essential

  • To be able to take the lead on preparing food for each session, ability to cook for large numbers.
  • Understanding of food hygiene and safety.
  • To be able to help the staff team plan meals and shopping lists in advance
  • To be able to accommodate additional dietary and allergy requirements. 
  • Able to work as a team with other volunteers and staff
  • To be responsible for cleaning the kitchen after the session

Desirable

  • Previous catering experience, ideally with a Level 2 in Food Hygiene however this qualification can be provided.
  • To be able to consult with young people on menu choices.

Details

Young Adult Carers group sessions take place between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. Times for menu planning etc can be flexible.
