The Aden Veterans Project - Content Writer

As a Content Writer volunteer you will help share the stories, memories and discoveries emerging from the Aden Project with wider audiences. Your writing will support the preservation and interpretation of veterans’ experiences through articles, profiles, newsletters, social media and educational content. This role will help bring the project to life for veterans, families, schools, researchers and the wider public.

What the Role Involves

There are a number of different writing opportunities within this role, allowing volunteers to contribute in ways that suit their interests and confidence. These may include:

  • Writing veteran profiles for the Legasee Archive website
  • Assisting with articles for publications such as The Dhow, the Legasee newsletter and other heritage or oral history publications
  • Supporting the creation of social media content and short promotional pieces
  • Helping to write exhibition captions, website content and project updates
  • Working from interview transcripts, recordings and research material to create accessible and engaging written content


What skills do I need?

No formal writing experience is required, although confidence with written communication and an interest in storytelling, history or heritage would be beneficial.

We welcome volunteers who are:

  • Interested in people’s stories and lived experiences
  • Comfortable writing in a clear and engaging way
  • Organised and able to work from source material
  • Willing to receive feedback and work collaboratively

This role is flexible and can usually be completed remotely from home. Some opportunities may involve occasional meetings or collaboration with the project team, depending on the task.
