We are seeking enthusiastic and media focussed individuals with an interest in storytelling and documentary production to join The Aden Veterans Oral History Project as volunteer videographers. This role is ideal for media students in the Blackpool area aiming to build their portfolio while capturing the profound personal stories of veterans. 

You will help film and edit oral history interviews to preserve veterans’ stories for future generations, while receiving mentoring and guidance from Legasee founder, videographer and oral historian Martin Bisiker.

What the Role Involves

  • Assisting with simple equipment checks and preparation before interviews
  • Setting up and operating video recording equipment, audio and lighting
  • Working alongside interviewers to capture respectful and engaging interview footage
  • Editing raw footage into video content
  • Managing basic file transfer, back up and storage of recorded video content and follow established file-naming conventions

What skills do I need?

We welcome volunteers who are:

  • Studying film or media production
  • Are familiar with Adobe Premiere video editing software [or similar], guidance and training on our work flow will be provided
  • Empathetic and patient with strong communication skills, as you will be working directly with veterans
  • Reliable, as you will need to manage your own time and meet project deadlines for finished content
  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential material

This role is based primarily in Blackpool where interviews will take place, and will need to be completed in person. The interviews will be arranged at a mutually convenient time to fit around your other commitments.
